Goal Five: Gender Equality

Approximately 80% of garment workers are women and unfortunately women are more vulnerable to exploitation in the fashion industry. Women in garment factories are also more likely to experience physical or sexual abuse. “Globally nearly one in three garment workers experience sexual harassment in their workplaces.” (CARE International, 2017). Unfortunately, in many of the countries where clothing is made there are no laws prohibiting sexual harassment at work.

This is another reason we are proud to be an Australian made label. In Australia, we have many laws in place that govern conduct in the workplace. Also, with the Ethical Clothing Australia Accreditation, can be sure that all of the women and men making our clothing are receiving all their legal minimum entitlements and working in safe conditions.
